Automatic LessonsChurchtown is where you get real-world skills
Churchtown Road carries steady two-way traffic with parked cars squeezing the lanes. Braemor Road has tight bends and limited visibility near the residential sections. Landscape Road connects through to Rathfarnham with junctions that need sharp observation, especially at the cross with Churchtown Road Upper.

EDT lessons built around Churchtown roads
Twelve lessons on the roads you already know. Churchtown Road Upper, Braemor Road, and the routes into Rathgar.
L1-2: Car Controls and Positioning
Landscape Road alongside Landscape Park is the starting point. Low traffic and long sightlines let you focus on clutch control and holding your position without pressure. Parked cars near the park entrance give you your first width judgement.
Learn about EDTL3-4: Direction Changes and Speed
Churchtown Road Lower has a steady rhythm broken by speed ramps. You practise reading the road ahead, adjusting your speed smoothly before each ramp, and keeping your momentum rather than braking hard and rushing between them.
EDT detailsL5-6: Complex Positioning and Hazards
Braemor Road presents the first real hazard challenge. Hedges and walls at both ends limit what you can see at the junctions. You learn to creep forward, read what is hidden, and position the car so other drivers can see you too.
Test preparationL7-8: Sharing the Road and Traffic
Churchtown Road Upper is the busiest stretch in the area. Bus stops, parked vans near the shops, and pedestrians stepping between cars all require stop-start awareness at low speed. You practise constant observation without freezing up.
Test preparationL9-10: Complex Junctions and Speed Management
Nutgrove Way backs up during the evening rush when the shopping centre empties. These lessons focus on queue management, holding your position without creeping forward, and judging gaps that are actually safe to take.
View optionsL11-12: Calm Driving and Night Conditions
The final lessons connect Churchtown to the Rathgar Test Centre route. Smooth gear changes, consistent mirror routines, and the composed driving style that scores well on test day. Night driving adds light management to your checklist.

Passed at Rathgar, started on Churchtown Road
I just past my test in Churchtown and I give full credit to RSA school of motoring and in particular Aidan Brereton (and his red dot!!) I am an extremely nervous driver who has failed 2 previous tests. I have taken lessons from other schools of motoring but RSA were by far the easiest to deal with, from talking to James on the phone to the instructors. I had 2 pre tests the two days leading up to my test. Thanks to Aidan the day before the test, I was able to focus better and to control my nerves (and not focus on any mistakes leading me to make more). Both instructors (James Dowling and Aidan) had a great attitude towards the testers which i have found other instructors have not. They got it into my head to do my best and that the testers were in fact not just out to fail me!!
Mary took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. I'm very grateful to my driving instructor, Jonathan, who gives lessons in South Dublin, including the Dundrum area. He is an excellent instructor, super professional, highly experienced and very patient. He focuses on success and has covered all aspects of driving needed to pass my test. RSA School of Motoring has an excellent website for booking and reebooking lessons. The support team are very good. I highly recommend this school and especially this instructor.
I had an excellent experience with my driving instructor Derek from Clondalkin, ADI 38295, at the beginning of May, this year. I had taken lessons previously with another instructor, but had failed to passed the test. On my second attempt, I opted for two lessons the week of my test, one of them on the day, right before the test itself. I was successful, and passed my test! Part of my success was due to Derek and his style of teaching. He was friendly, relaxed, informative and thorough.
Emma took driving lessons with RSA School of Motoring. I was extremely nervous about driving, but Andy was amazing. He's so calm and great craic, which made me feel at ease straight away. His explanations were clear and made everything click. Thanks to Andy, I passed my test first time at the Tallaght Test Centre. I've already recommended him to two friends who are taking lessons with him and think he's brilliant. 11/10 would recommend Andy in Tallaght to anyone!
