Essential Driver Training Lesson Six
Lesson 6 of EDT
Anticipation and Reaction
On this lesson, we will attempt to show you how to scan the area for hazards, and how to react and respond appropriately to potential hazards as they arise.
On this lesson, you will be driving in a variety of road conditions including junction, streets with parked cars, pedestrians, roads with warning signs, bends and hills. We will show you how to deal and cope with the hazards like:
- Pedestrians
- Motorbikes
- Road works
- Pedestrian crossings
The object being to confidently deal with each situation.
You would need effective scanning techniques to spot, identify and react in good time by:
- Using the correct speed and gear
- Keeping correct and safe distance
- Breaking correctly
Ultimately, you would need to show that you can identify early all immediate hazards ahead, and respond to them in an organized and calm fashion. If you spot the hazard early, you can tell the car early what to do. This keeps you out of harms way by anticipating and seeing potential problems before they actually happen.
Having successfully completed this lesson, you should study for EDT 7: Sharing the Road.
