Essential Driver Training Lesson One
Lesson 1 of EDT
Car Control and Safety Checks
Lesson 1 is all about car control and safety checks. You would need to be familiar with the rules of the road, the vehicle and its controls. You would need to have practiced using the vehicle's primary controls like the steering wheel and brakes, secondary controls like the wipers and lights, driving in quiet areas, and some starting and stopping. The RSA recommend at least three hours practice before your first EDT.
The reason some pupils don't make progress
Pupils who don't practice before or after EDT 1, take longer to progress through the syllabus than pupils who do it right. There can be no excuses if because of the end of the 12 EDT lessons if you can't still drive, it's because you haven't followed the syllabus exactly the way it should be in relation to correct practice.
What you should have learned at the end of EDT 1
You should be familiar with the pretest vehicle checks and understand the location and function, and how to use the foot brake, the handbrake, steering, the gears, accelerator and clutch, wipers, lights and reflectors, front and rear demisters, windows, doors, and locks. You would need to explain why their correct and appropriate use is important to your own safety.
